How to use the Notice Period Calculator
- Enter the date you resigned (or will resign).
- Enter your notice period in days or months.
- Choose whether the resignation day counts as day 1.
- Optionally add a preferred leaving date and monthly salary for the buyout estimate.
Formula
Last working day = Resignation date + Notice period − 1 day (when the resignation day counts)
Buyout = Monthly salary ÷ 30 × Days short
How companies count notice
Most companies count the resignation date as the first day of notice, so a 30-day notice from 1 October ends on 30 October. Notice periods in months usually end the day before the same date in the final month. Weekends and holidays count as notice days unless your contract says otherwise.
Notice buyout
If you leave early, employers commonly recover salary for the unserved days — often calculated on basic or gross salary divided by 30. Your appointment letter decides the basis, and leave balance may be adjusted against the shortfall.
Worked examples
Resigned 1 October 2026, 60 days notice, resignation day counted
- 1 October + 60 days = 30 November
- Minus 1 day because 1 October is day 1
Last working day: 29 November 2026
Want to leave on 31 October instead, salary ₹60,000
- Days short = 29
- Buyout = 60,000 ÷ 30 × 29
Estimated buyout ₹58,000
