How to use the Discount Calculator
- Choose “Price after discount” or “Discount % from two prices”.
- Enter the original price (MRP) and the discount — or the sale price.
- Add an extra discount if a second offer applies on top.
Formula
Discount amount = Original price × Discount % ÷ 100
Final price = Original price − Discount amount
With a second discount: Final = Price × (1 − d1 ÷ 100) × (1 − d2 ÷ 100)
Discount % = (Original − Sale price) ÷ Original × 100
Two discounts don't simply add up
“20% off + extra 10% off” is not 30% off. The second discount applies to the already-reduced price, so the combined discount is 28%. On a ₹1,000 item: 20% off gives ₹800, and 10% off ₹800 gives ₹720.
For sellers: check the margin before you discount
A 20% discount on a product with a 25% margin wipes out 80% of your profit on that sale. Before running an offer, check the discounted price against your cost with the Profit Margin Calculator.
Worked examples
20% off ₹2,499
- Discount = 2,499 × 20% = ₹499.80
- Final price = 2,499 − 499.80
Pay ₹1,999.20, save ₹499.80
20% off plus an extra 10% on ₹1,000
- After 20%: ₹800
- Extra 10% of ₹800 = ₹80 → ₹720
- Effective discount = 280 ÷ 1,000 = 28%
Pay ₹720 (28% off in total)
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate a discount percentage?

Is GST charged on the price before or after discount?
When the discount is given on the invoice at the time of sale, GST is generally charged on the discounted price.
