How to use the CGPA to Percentage Calculator
- Choose CGPA → percentage or percentage → CGPA.
- Enter your score.
- Pick CBSE, or choose your university's formula and enter its multiplier and the number it subtracts, if any.
The CBSE formula
Percentage = CGPA × 9.5
CGPA = Percentage ÷ 9.5
CBSE linked its 10-point grading to percentages with a factor of 9.5, based on the average performance of students in each grade band. So a CGPA of 8.6 is about 81.7%, and a perfect 10 is 95%.
| CGPA | Percentage |
|---|---|
| 10 | 95% |
| 9 | 85.5% |
| 8.6 | 81.7% |
| 8 | 76% |
| 7 | 66.5% |
| 6 | 57% |
Universities use their own formulas
There's no single national formula for college CGPAs. Some universities multiply by 10, others subtract a number first — for example (CGPA − 0.75) × 10 — and some publish a conversion table on the marksheet. Always use the formula printed on your grade card or published by your university, especially for job and admission applications.
With (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, a CGPA of 8 becomes 72.5%. With CGPA × 10 it would be 80%. The difference matters when a cut-off is 75%.
Worked examples
CBSE CGPA 8.6
- 8.6 × 9.5
81.7%
University formula (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, CGPA 8
- (8 − 0.75) × 10
72.5%
Important notes
- If an application asks for a percentage and your marksheet only has CGPA, attach the conversion rule from your board or university where possible.
